The Shofar
In the Bible, whenever you see mention of the Trumpet it is usually referring to the “Shofar”. Shofar comes from a Hebrew word ‘Teruwah’, which means, “clamour of trumpets, acclamation of joy, wild shout, a battle cry, to announce forcefully or loudly”. “Uwah” means to split the ears with sound! The Shofar is traditionally made out of a Ram’s Horn but perhaps the most common in the Church today is the larger Yemenite Shofar, which is the horn of an Antelope. The shofar was blown before the Ark of the Covenant by the priests as they marched around Jericho. (Joshua 6 vs. 4-20). It sounds as a call to battle and to come and worship God!
We use the Shofar in our watches and other worship and prayer contexts as another spiritual warfare tool. The sounds of the Shofar have been likened to the “groans too deep for words” of Romans 8 v.26 in the sense that we don’t understand what is happening but that we are interceding as we blow the Shofar.
Take a listen to the sounds of the Shofar (Real Audio format). These are all from a small Ram’s Horn blown by Jeremy. We hope to add some from a large Yemenite shofar soon. We do not see these as merely a sound to download and listen to but as a spiritual warfare tool that you can use in your worship and intercession. We have prayed over these sounds that as you play them from your computer it would be as if the shofar was being blown right where you are. In Acts 19:11-12 – (New International Version) we read that “God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them“. In the same way we believe that God will use these sounds to bring breakthrough in your situations as they are played back. Feel free to use them wherever you like. You may post them on your web site but we would appreciate it if you would acknowledge the source by linking back to our web site (thanks!).
